RED
POLITICAL THEATRE IN SCOTLAND. WRITTEN BY WOMEN.
A BOX
Is theatre something that happens inside a box, called "organisation" OR IS IT SOMETHING THAT SERVES TO CONSTRUCT THE BOX ITSELF?
WHO NARRATES? WHO IS ENTITLED TO NARRATE? Inside the BOX narrators position their own relationship to dominant ideologies and they themselves decide what these dominant ideologies are going to be.
THINK ABOUT YOUR IDENTITY. WHO ARE YOU? If identities are socially
constructed, then ideologies are the nucleus around which people orient themselves to form recognisable truths.
Who FEEDS your ideology?
THEATRE is a COMING-OUT story.
THEATRE is a rhetorical attempt to justify one’s life.
Not all self‐transformation stories are either recognized or accepted. Simply producing an utterance does not ensure that its recipients will accept and ratify it. Your utterance is open to all manner of challenge and resistance.
Your utterance may never be recorded.
Your utterance may be deleted from history.
AND A LADY
Entitlement is privilege. Privilege determines the position from which one speaks.
A position is a situation.
A situation is a location.
A location is (usually) discursively dangerous.
A lady is not (usually) advised to partake in danger.
A neutral voice is not possible.
All voices are loaded.
All utterances are nuanced.
All ladies have a voice.
All voices are prone to reveal secret little truths.
Little truths are (usually) rather ugly.
LADIES are (usually) not advised to reveal little truths as ugliness does not (usually) behove them.
Ladies who seem ugly to the eyes of some are (usually) the most powerful presences in world history.
In poetics and in politics LADIES are still NOT written into HISTORY.
OUR WORK IS NOT DONE
AN UN-COLONISED SITE IS NOT YET OURS
A BOX IS NOT YET CONSTRUCTED
